ZSecurity FAQ
II. Installation
What do I need to prepare for ZSecurity installation?
To install ZSecurity you will need:
A program CD or downloaded version of the .exe file.
A valid product subscription key for full-version users.
those with a CD will find the key printed on the back cover of the user guide
those using a downloaded version will receive an email message which includes the key
A working internet connection.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If your computer utilizes multiple user accounts, you must log in as the administrator before beginning the ZSecurity installation. Failing to do so will result in ZSecurity not protecting every user account.
For detailed installation instructions, please download our installation guides.
How will I know if ZSecurity installed properly?
Once the installation is complete you will need to restart your computer. When the Windows desktop comes up you should see the ZSecurity icon in your system tray. If you see the icon the program has successfully installed. Below is a list of the different icons that might appear and what they mean.
The software is working properly, your computer is fully protected.
Download in progress. ZSecurity is downloading updates and/or definitions. When the download is complete and has been applied, the icon should return to its normal state.
ZSecurity has encountered an error. To see the error, move your mouse over the icon, a small tool tip box will appear.
Warning: your computer is not fully protected. This means either your definitions are not up-to-date, or one of ZSecurity's components has been disabled. To see the cause of the warning, move your mouse over the icon, a small tool tip box will appear. Check for systems updates or enable to non-functioning component; whichever is needed to fully protect your computer.
Flashing icon: Critical warning state. This means your definitions are extremely out-of-date. Update the software as soon as possible.
ZSecurity is unloaded. Your computer is not protected because ZSecurity has been dumped from the system memory. To restore your protection, right-click the system tray icon and select reload.
What should I do if my computer freezes or runs slow after I restart?
Check the system tray icon for a green bar; if you see one it means ZSecurity is downloading updates. On a new installation the program needs to download a large amount of information which may cause your system to run slowly or appear frozen. Wait until the downloads are complete and your computer will return to normal.
If no green bar appears, or you see a warning icon, that probably means you have installed ZSecurity over another security program that was not removed. In this case you will have to restart your computer in safe mode and manually remove the conflicting security program. To restart in safe mode, completely shut off the computer; wait 5 seconds then turn it back on. As soon as the opening splash screen disappears hold down the F8 key; then choose "start in safe mode".
For instructions on how to remove conflicting software manually through the control panel, see section 1 of this guide.
Why have I lost my internet and email access after ZSecurity installation?
You haven't totally lost access, it's merely being blocked. The ZSecurity firewall is set to not allow internet access by default. To change this just
double click the system tray icon to bring up the program. Then:
1.Click the Internet Shield tab.
2.Click Advanced.
3.Select Internet Shield, then Application Control.
4.Click the Applications tab. A list of applications that are allowed or denied will appear.
5.Find your browser and email programs and check the box to allow them. |
