V. Scanning & Updates

Do I need to update ZSecurity manually?

No. If you use a broadband internet connection ZSecurity downloads and installs updates on computer start-up. If you use a dial-up connection, this process will take place as soon as you connect to the internet. You may, if you chose, check for updates manually by doing the following:
1.If you are using a dial-up connection, connect to the internet now. (Broadband users disregard this step)
2.Double-click the ZSecurity icon in the system tray; the grahic user interface (GUI) will open and the time of the latest update should be seen.
3.Click Check now. ZSecurity will check for, download, and apply the latest program and definitions updates.

Is there a way to check that my software is updated and working properly?

You can always check the staus of ZSecurity through the GUI. Simply Double-click the ZSecurity icon in the system tray to open it. Your software status will be displayed in the main window.

How often should I manually scan my system?

Manual system scans are not necessary unless there's a possibility that a recent attack against your computer has been successful. ZSecurity uses real-time scanning to protect you whenever your system is running. Though unlikely, it is possible that a new threat could get by our real-time scanning in which case a manual or scheduled scan might be necessary. You may start a manual scan through the Virus & Spy Protection tab of the GUI.

How do I configure automatic/scheduled scans?

Scheduled scans are configured through the GUI options. To schedule your scans:
1.Double-click the ZSecurity icon in the system tray; the GUI will open.
2.Click on Virus & Spy Protection.
3.Click Configure next to Scheduled Scanning.
4.Select Enable Scheduled Scanning.
5.Choose the days to scan. You may schedule scans daily, on given days during the week, or up to three selected days per month.
6.Choose a time to start the scan. You may specify a start time or choose to have a scan begin after a period of time when the computer sits idle.
NOTE: Scanning takes time and resources. Scheduled scans are best done at a time when the computer is not being used for something else.

Must all files and folders be checked during real-time scanning, or can some be excluded?

Files and folders unlikely to be affected by an attack can be excluded from real-time scanning. To configure which files should be excluded, do the following:

1.Double-click the ZSecurity icon in the system tray; the GUI will open.
2.Click Virus & Spy Protection.
3.Click Configure next to Real-time Scanning.
4.Click Exclusions.
5.Click the Objects tab, then Exclude Objects, and Add.
6.Choose the file, drive, or folder and click OK.
7.Repeat steps 5 and 6 until all your exclusions have been selected.
8.Click OK to close the dialog box.
9.Click OK to apply the new settings.
NOTE: Empty removable drives and network drives cannot be excluded.
